Year 9: Creation Stories
Teacher Resource
Welcome Colleagues,
In this area of study we will focus on Genesis, viewing it as the Catholic Creation myth and examining Genesis in conjunction with other Creation myths from around the world, namely, those of the Sumerians (the Enuma Elish), the Egyptians, and the Hindus. We will examine each of these myths in turn, relating each back to Genesis, inviting students to draw parallels between these myths and Genesis, our own Creation myth.
In order to complete this task, we have created a short six lesson unit of work, to be delivered over a two week period.
All texts, discussion topics, questions, handouts, videos and other materials are available on the corresponding pages.
- Lesson 1: Introduction to Myths
- Lesson 2: The Bible
- Lesson 3: Genesis – The Catholic Creation Story
- Lesson 4: Enuma Elish – The Sumerian Creation Story
- Lesson 5: Hindu Creation Story
- Lesson 6: Egyptian Creation Story
It is highly recommended that you familiarise yourself with each of these texts, particularly Genesis 1:1-2:4a. All staff should read through the Teacher Resource – Genesis section of this website in order to either familiarise, or re-familiarise yourself with material.
Kind regards,
The RE team
